Applying for help

Ask a professional who works with the child, such as a social worker, doctor or teacher, to email a referral to referral@childreninneed.org.uk. We do not accept applications directly from families.

We help children and young people in the UK who are sick, disabled or living in financial hardship. Most grants go to individual children, and we also fund organisations that care for them.

We fund medical equipment, hospital travel, therapies not available on the NHS, educational support, holidays and everyday essentials such as beds and white goods.

About the charity

No. We are an independent charity set up in 1983 and registered with the Charity Commission under number 287866. We have no connection with the BBC or its appeal.

We were established as an independent trust in September 1983 and have been helping children across the UK for over 40 years.

Our registered charity number in England and Wales is 287866.

Donating

All of it. Our trustees personally cover every running cost and expense, so donations are used solely to help children.

You can donate online by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal on our donate page. You can give once or set up a monthly gift.

If you are a UK taxpayer, Gift Aid lets us claim an extra 25p from HMRC for every £1 you give. It costs you nothing extra.

Our shop

Yes. Profits from every purchase fund travel grants, specialist equipment and direct financial help for sick and low-income children.

We currently deliver to addresses in the United Kingdom. Virtual gifts such as the Medical Travel Pass are sent by email. See delivery and returns.
